Construction Update Week #19
The holiday season is at its peak!  It is a time when things slow down and we have the opportunity to take in the beauty around us. This was a key element of David Ireland’s art: the ability to see the inherent beauty of the imperfections in the world around us. As Ireland stated on numerous occasions, “Art simply occurs in the process of living your life”.
Construction Update Week #18
Winter solstice occurs this weekend, marking the darkest day of the year. Although during this time the natural light at 500 Capp Street is minimal, it provides for a unique opportunity to light the house using the lamps David Ireland made. Using his signature materials of copper and concrete Ireland constructed over ten operational lamps. These lamps provide unique lighting which perfectly accompany the candle holders and the infamous fire chandelier.
Construction Update Week #17
The Bay Area and Northern California experienced an intense storm Thursday, with hurricane-force winds up to 78 mph in some areas and largeportions of the city facing power outages. While the rain is desperately needed, such mega storms are capable of damaging properties. Many homes and businesses in the area experienced flooding. Luckily, 500 Capp Street’s track record of surviving natural disasters remains intact.
