Dan Ake
Dan Ake is a prolific artist who works in sound, photography, performance, installation, and curation. He served on the Board of Directors at 80 Langton Street (1981-1984) and New Langton Arts (1984-1986), and as President of the Board at NewLangton Arts (1985-1986). He was also a San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) Artists Committee Member (1982-1986) and a member of the SFAI Board of Trustees (1985-1986). Ake has designed and built a number of experimental instruments that he plays for sound projects and performances. He has curated and organized exhibitions and projects locally, including Proof-Ten Photographers on Performance at New Langton Arts (1984), and internationally, including San Francisco/Reykjavik Exchange at the Living Art Museum in Reykjavik (1983). Ake has been a graduate seminar guest lecturer in Film and New Genres at SFAI. He earned a B.A. in Creative Arts Interdisciplinary from San Francisco State University and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from SFAI.
