Construction Update Week #18

Winter solstice occurs this weekend, marking the darkest day of the year. Although during this time the natural light at 500 Capp Street is minimal, it provides for a unique opportunity to light the house using the lamps David Ireland made. Using his signature materials of copper and concrete Ireland constructed over ten operational lamps. These lamps provide unique lighting which perfectly accompany the candle holders and the infamous fire chandelier. This combination of incandescent light and candlelight brings out a deeper yellow and orange hues as the flames flicker on the polished walls, a moody contrast from the bright yellow in reflecting the sunshine during the day.

While such evening light is not typically on display when hosting tours, the 500 Capp Street Foundation will be offering select events and tours in the evening so visitors can experience the home in all its varying lights.
